Tourist Day

Image
So this trip was obviously all about Chase's graduation, especially as basically lost a day with my Chicago fiasco. But I did have all day today as Chase flew out last night. He did have a bit of a delay in Atlanta but did make it to Minneapolis a little after 2:00 in the morning... Hopefully we are done with delays! Anyways I had the day to myself to play tourist in Charleston. It is HOT, like it hurts your skin HOT. But I decided to head down to historic Charleston anyways. I thought about doing a Grayline tour of the city, as it's on an air-conditioned bus, but ended up just riding the free transit bus around the city. I got off on King Street and did some walking along the shops. Ended up wandering in a Target (yes, there is a Target on King Street) just because it was air conditioned. There was a shop I heard had gold Palmetto bug jewelry, I was intrigued. Palmetto bugs are basically a cockroach and a big problem in the area... Anyways found the store and had to get myse...

GRADUATION DAY

Chase said I should get to the base around 7:45-8:00 this morning. He didn't think the traffic should be real bad as most the commuters should already be there and not a lot of family attend this graduation as they come home right away. Well, traffic was backed up for miles. Not sure what the issue was as there were not a lot at the graduation ceremony.  The traffic moved fairly quickly, gave my name at the security check point, and found the correct parking lot (thanks to the helpful sailors standing outside directing you along the way). My go to when looking for Chase is to look for the tall white kid. Not so easy in a room full of young men and women all dressed the same, plenty of them tall... I managed to find him though! The ceremony started promptly at 9:00 and lasted about an hour. I really appreciated that none of the speakers were more than 5 minutes and they were all quite good. I really look forward to watching it again when it's posted as I was a little distract...

I hate American Airlines

Chase graduates A school Friday, July 25 so of course I am headed back to Charleston. Short solo trip as he gets to come home after graduation. He said he would prefer us to take time off when he is home so that is what Kurt is doing.  Flew out to Sioux Falls on Wednesday night, left early to give myself a little buffer in case there were any flight issues. Thankfully I did!!! Knew it was a tight layover in Chicago but unfortunately that was the only option that worked so went for it. Flight out of Sioux Falls was delayed... I understand to a point, but the frustrating part is they will never come out and say delayed and give you an estimate of how long. Five minutes before our scheduled departure they were showing on time and our plane wasn't even at the gate... Anyways, get to Chicago and missed my connection. They had booked me for a flight the next morning through Charlotte. They made me gate check my bag in Sioux Falls so long night in the Chicago airport with no bag. O...
