So this trip was obviously all about Chase's graduation, especially as basically lost a day with my Chicago fiasco. But I did have all day today as Chase flew out last night. He did have a bit of a delay in Atlanta but did make it to Minneapolis a little after 2:00 in the morning... Hopefully we are done with delays!
Anyways I had the day to myself to play tourist in Charleston. It is HOT, like it hurts your skin HOT. But I decided to head down to historic Charleston anyways. I thought about doing a Grayline tour of the city, as it's on an air-conditioned bus, but ended up just riding the free transit bus around the city. I got off on King Street and did some walking along the shops. Ended up wandering in a Target (yes, there is a Target on King Street) just because it was air conditioned. There was a shop I heard had gold Palmetto bug jewelry, I was intrigued. Palmetto bugs are basically a cockroach and a big problem in the area... Anyways found the store and had to get myself a pair of earrings. I love them!
My earrings, can't really see them so you will have to believe me that they are awesome.
Such cool buildings!
Wandered for just a bit and ready to get back on the air conditioned bus and find some lunch. I wanted to go to The Griffon, a place Chase had talked about. I missed the stop on the bus but seeing as it was nice and cool I just rode the loop again.
The Griffon is a really neat old bar with dollar bills all over the walls. I had a hotdog with chili, cheese, and coleslaw on it. It was quite yummy. I was worried that it would be packed and it was, no tables but a lady saw me looking and told me she was about done so I was welcome to join her then have her table. I took her up on her offer. She was from Virginia, her husband was there on business so she had the day on her own.
After lunch I thought about walking through the City Market but it was too darn hot and crowded. I couldn't believe all the people! I wanted to tell them they should come in April because it was gorgeous weather then! So I decided to just take the bus back to my car and hear out of the overcrowded, overheated zoo!
I stopped at the Rusty Bull, close to the airport, for a cold beverage just to waste some time. Had a nice drink and read my book for a while.
Got to the airport in plenty of time (about three and a half hours before my flight) but I was tired and hot and ready to just sit. Going to grab a bite to eat, read, and people watch til time to go. Here's hoping the flight home goes much better or poor Kurt is going to have to pay for an overpriced hotel for the night! No more airport floors for me!!!
