Family Staycation

I had discussed doing a trip with my sister this year and we went through a few different options. They had to come out this way for a wedding so we talked about meeting in the Hills or going down to Omaha but decided it would just work best to just do a vacation in Sioux Falls. Totally okay with me as I really enjoy Sioux Falls!

I forgot the computer at home so just one big, long blog on the whole getaway.

Puppy prison doesn't take Sunday drop-offs and we didn't have the rental house until then so we decided to do a little pre-vacation downtown Saturday night. Not going to pay for a night at the kennel and just go home! We ended up getting a VRBO as the hotels were all $300 plus a night. It was a one bedroom so figured it would at least have a couch for Chase but I was wrong. It was a cute little place but just had a kitchen table and chairs in the main room. So Chase got to spend the night on the hardwood floors... Good thing he is young!

Walked down to Blarney Stone for supper. As always great food and great beers! I had their soup and a salad, probably not the greatest choice before a night of beers! Chase had a 'beer cocktail', it was a combination of a peanut butter stout and some fruit beer so basically a peanut butter and jelly beer. He said it wasn't bad. I passed on trying it... After supper we walked back to Monks and met John and Dee for a beer. A couple beers at Monks then went over to Remedy Brewing. Can't call it a night of bar hopping if you only go one bar! Was a fun night of talking, laughing and playing Penny Drop. Even pulled out my Would You Rather Book - Kurt's favorite!

We rented a house in Sioux Falls so we could all stay together and didn't need to drive back and forth. Unfortunately Sam and Holly were not able to make it out.

Super cute little house. They had foosball, ping pong, and an arcade game in the house. Outside they had bean bags and a tic-tac-toe game. I think the highlight for many was the bidet, although I passed on that experience!

Sunday we went to Roam for a late lunch for Father's Day. My all time favorite salad but decided to try something new and had to Country Fried Steak. Was delicious! After lunch we checked in to the house. Hung out and played games this evening.

Monday started out rainy so we decided to try out an Escape Room. This was Katie's pick. We did a 'treasure hunt' in the pirate room. Was a little bit of a slow start but once we figured out what we were supposed to be doing I think we did alright. We escaped (with a little help from our 'hostess')!!!

There was a little water problem in the basement so the owner had to send RotoRooter out. Was not a big deal but she sent us Pizza Ranch as an apology so we headed back to the house for lunch. Played a board game then headed to Falls Park as the rain had stopped for a while.

Back to the house for a big pork roast supper and games. Dee made up a fund Jeopardy game and a Dad trivia game. I learned I am not good at Jeopardy (I forget to answer in the form of a question) and lots of new stuff about Dad. She even had prizes although I didn't win any... Finished off with cake to celebrate Dad's 80th Birthday back in April.

Chase and Katie's prizes

Tuesday the weather started out clear so we headed for Good Earth State Park to do a little wandering. Mom and Dad have a South Dakota State Park pass so we could go for free. I have never been to this park and was quite impressed. They had a very nice visitor center and a short video on the history of the area. Our first trail was about a mile with nice lookouts over the river and country side below. We were going to go further but as we were headed back it started to rain, then really rain. Was a bit of a chilly rain too! That ended the hiking for the day!

Worked up an appetite on our short hike so headed for Red Rock Bar & Grill to meet Mom for lunch. They have some of the best chislic around, I love chislic, Dee has never had chislic, and it was Chislic Tuesday so no brainer!  Can't believe I didn't get a picture!

After lunch Kurt had to head back home. Mary ended up having her gall bladder out Saturday in Marshall. Kurt had spent the morning with her before he came down. He had to pick her up and take her home so had to leave early. Tuesday night we just hung out at the house and played more games.

Wednesday was Great Shots. We ended up renting a bay for a couple hours. If you have a group and go during the day I thought the price was very reasonable! Plus Wednesday it $2 hot dogs and $2 Busch Lite. I have never golfed but had a great time. Basically there was no aiming, just try to hit it as far as I could.

I never realized but I guess Dee if afraid of heights?!?! Not sure how I never knew this... She didn't really like the edge of the platform. After she hit she would always take a step back right away. Don't know that she even realized she was doing it. They have a net so it's like you would fall far but it does make me wonder how often need to be helped out of the net!

Back to the house for some bean bags, Trivial Pursuit (I won, I actually got all my pies!!!), and rest. This evening Glen, Sue, and Bonnie came over for supper. John made his spaghetti and it was great! After supper it was a beautiful evening so back out for some bean bags. Chase and Katie creamed John and Glen. They played three games and they won all of them. Was a great night filled with laughter.

Peak-A-Boo

Thursday we had to check out of the house so packed and cleaned up. Chase had to head home so I brought him to get his car. Played a bit of cards and was time for me to head back home. Had a great time with the family! Just missed Sam and Holly!!!! Maybe next time!
