Oregon Bound - Thursday, October 3

I had some vacation time to use, and Kurt suggested I visit my niece in Oregon. I hadn't planned on it, but when Dee mentioned she was going to help her move, I decided to invite myself along. I found a good deal on flights and signed up for the United card, which gave me a $300 credit, a free bag, and two United Club passes. It turned out to be a great deal!

Woke up at 3:45 to head to the airport. Just time for a quick shower and brush my teeth. No time to do the hair or makeup. At least I didn't stink!

The flights went smoothly. I had a quick breakfast in Denver and sampled some empanadas, which were delicious! The flight from Denver to Portland was packed, and my seatmate had a lap child. Initially, I braced myself for a lengthy flight, but to my relief, the little girl was so good. She slept for most of the flight. Although she got a little fussy, sharing my animal crackers with her kept her happy.

The views of Mount Hood as you approach Portland are stunning. I think it's one of the more beautiful cities when seen from above!

Arrived right on time and was picked up at the airport by Holly and Dee. It's just an hour and a half drive down to Salem. We made a stop at Costco for gas and dinner, picking the chicken street taco kit. Costco was incredibly crowded. It turns out that there was a rush on toilet paper again because of a ground worker strike, which lasted less than 24 hours. People are crazy!

We went to the Lavender Farm to help Holly pack. We enjoyed playing with the chickens and took a tour of the farm. We met her landlords, who had just returned from an elk hunting trip which we got to hear all about. Was a fascinating place with very interesting people. Holly had gathered quite a few belongings since she moved in, so we ended up making two trips.
Her new place is down 20 steps and up another 7, so taking a break midway was welcome. We recharged with some street tacos before finishing the move - they were scrumptious!

Hit Dairy Queen on the way back to Holly's new place. After we hauled everything in and dumped in her foyer we ended the evening with our blizzards and some Bananagrams.
