Chicago Bound!!!

I shouldn't actually say Chicago bound as I hope to never actually enter Chicago.

We left around 8:30 Tuesday morning for Great Lakes, IL for Chase's graduation from boot camp. The roads were clear and weather good although chilly. Made it all the way to Worthington before our first potty break at a Kwik Trip of course. A couple donuts and beverage refill and we were on our way again. Had lunch at Taco John's (drove around too long in LaCrosse looking for something and finally settled on Taco John's...) and back on road. Way too much traffic on these roads for my liking! We stopped in Janesville, WI for the night. Stayed at a Cobblestone right downtown so we could park and walk for supper. Nice hotel right on the water (not sure what the water was but it was pretty). It had these neat places across the river with neat little balconies out back. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of them. Here is our view from the room though.

After we checked in we walked a couple blocks to Rock County Brewing Company. Great little brewery! It is an old carriage house so lots of old brick and wood. Also, great beer! I had a Sunrise on the Rock Saison (loved it!) and Dry-Hopped Pils (also good). Kurt tried a few different ones and he really enjoyed his too. Highly recommend if in Janesville!
After a couple beers we figured we should get something to eat. Walked down to Whiskey Ranch Bar and Grill. It was taco night so I had a classic, pork, and brisket taco. The pork and brisket had coleslaw and onion straws on them. The classic and pork were great, the brisket just okay.

Back to the hotel after supper and just relaxed and watched a little TV. It is crazy how a long drive makes you tired! You're just sitting!
We were up early this morning as we were in bed so early last night... Just had toast at the hotel for breakfast. Went to the Volo Antique Malls in Volo, IL, about an hour or so away. This place was HUGE! They also have a museum there but it's a bit expensive and we spent plenty of time in the antique mall so skipped it. The mall was three separate building attached by covered walkways. One of the buildings had three floors. I mean HUGE. They had some really cool stuff, was so fun to walk around and check out everything. Lots of memories - I am getting old when things I remember are now in the antique shops... I really enjoyed the little people display! Can't believe the prices for my childhood toys!

Left Volo and headed for Great Lakes. Had to pick up our tickets for graduation. I heard it can be a long line and it was noon and there was an Arby's across the street so we stopped for lunch first. It was a good thing we had lunch first as the line went to the back of the NEX store and wrapped around. Took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Good thing we didn't really have any other plans today.

SO EXCITED!!!

Decided to see if we could check in a little early to the hotel and thankfully they had a room ready. Staying at the Navy Lodge. It isn't on base but it typically only open to military but they allow family of sailors graduating to stay. It is a nice room.
Got unloaded and relaxed a bit before we headed out to find something to drink. Wanted to try Lake Bluff Brewing but when we showed up the doors were locked. It says online they should be open so not sure what was going on. Walked back to the car to come up with a new plan. There was another little place down the road so walked down there but once again doors locked. Annoying! Ended up going to Chief's Pub. Nothing special with just the standards on tap. Ended up with a Blue Moon and chicken quesadilla for supper. Food was nothing special, just basic.
Back to the hotel for an early night. Can't wait for tomorrow!!!!
