KANSAS CITY

Finally - a road trip! We haven't taken a road trip in over a year! Although I was really tempted to fly to see Chase we are doing a road trip to Missouri.

Day one - Kansas City

I wanted to be on the road at 8:00 and we were pretty close. By the time we dropped off Buddy, went to the cash machine, and dropped off a bill we were on the road before 8:30 so I think we did pretty good.

Good drive, really no problems. There was a BAD accident around St Joseph that backed things up a bit but otherwise everything was smooth. Stopped for lunch at Arbys somewhere (not exactly sure where - a little north of Omaha) and arrived in Kansas City around 3:00.

Checked in to our hotel - Origin Riverfront. Nice place, just opened last year and as the name implies - right on the river.

After a discussion with the very nice guy at the front desk we decided on Q39 for supper. We have been here before and debated on going back (we loved it) or trying something new. He agreed that Q39 is amazing and his favorite so we decided to go back. We are always afraid when we go back somewhere we loved that it ends up being a disappointment and we were not disappointed! The coleslaw was not as great as I remembered but the tacos and street corn were amazing! Kurt said his brisket and burnt ends were great. Glad we decided to go back!

We didn't even unpack at the hotel - just headed straight for an early supper so back to the hotel to unload the car. Everyone is super nice and location is great. Cute room with a great view of the river BUT for being a new hotel they should have soundproofed a bit more. Woke up at 1:00 am to banging doors. I could even turn the bathroom light off as we got plenty of light through the door from the hallway. Other than that - really liked the hotel.

Relaxed for just a bit and headed out to Outlaw Cigar and Brewing. Loved this place - HUGE cigar bar. The people were super nice and I sampled quite a few great beers! I appreciated that they had quite a few with lower alcohol - it seems a lot of craft breweries get so high in alcohol values! Hung out for a cigar, old fashioned (Kurt), a flight (me) before catching our Uber back to the hotel. I told Kurt if we were staying a second night in Kansas City we would come back. Between cigars, t-shirt, and drinks this was quite a spendy stop!   But off to our next stop tomorrow!

Successful day one of vacation!!!
