St Joseph, MO

Slept in this morning! Didn't get up until almost 7:30! Yes, I take joy in the little things!

We had breakfast at the hotel. It was pretty good actually, Kurt had biscuits and gravy and I made myself a breakfast sandwich. Packed up and headed to the Patee House Museum and Jesse James House.

The Patee House was many things in the past - a hotel, Pony Express office, a women's college, a shirt factory and I am sure other things I am not remembering. It is now a museum of pretty much everything. Three floors packed full of stuff! I told Kurt it made me think of someone saying "What should we do with all Aunt Ruby's old junk and someone told them - donate it to the museum"! It was interesting but So Much Stuff. There was an area that had old carriages and a train engine and mail car; an area dedicated to the Pony Express; an area that was fashioned after walking down main street St Joseph; replica of hotel rooms; and on and on and on.

The Ice Cream Shop

The doors were so high because the Pony Express riders would ride their horse in rather than dismount and leave their horse outside.

The portable bath tub - it got carried into your room when you were needing a bath

An example of a hotel room, a very nice one.

After the Patee Museum we went around the corner to the Jesse James House. He had only lived in this house a few months before he was shot in the back by a 'friend' who wanted to collect the reward. Just four rooms so didn't take too long to walk through!

Jesse Jame's house (not the original location - it has been moved a couple times)

The location he was shot - they say he noticed the picture was crooked so he stood on the chair to fix it when Bob Ford shot him in the back. The framed gun is a replica of the gun used and the whole in the wall is where they claim the bullet ended up.

After wandering for a couple hours we were all museumed out so decided to go ahead and start out for Omaha. Had a quick lunch at Jimmy John's (love Jimmy Johns but don't get the pasta salad - not great!) and headed north. It is only about two hours away.
First stop in Omaha was Infusion Brewing. They make an Orange Dreamsicle Vanilla Bean Blonde and I really like. The regular Vanilla Bean Blonde is pretty good too. Anyways, I always said the next time we go to Omaha I want to go to Infusion so we did. They didn't have the orange but I was able to have the Vanilla Bean Blonde at the original location. It was really out of the way, if I had realized how far might have skipped it...

Made our way to hotel for the night - the Hyatt Old Market. We discussed where to stay and decided to pay a little more to stay so we just could park and walk wherever we wanted to go. It is a very nice hotel right in Old Market so works out great!
View from our room

We wandered Old Market and checked out a couple stores. They have some really neat stores that it's just fun to browse. I found Kurt some adult Underoos but they only had 2X so had to pass them up... Enjoyed the 'vintage' clothes shop that basically meant old, ripped, and stained... Only purchase was the candy store! I got an assortment of truffles and Kurt got some white chocolate almond bark.
We had supper at Twisted Fork. We have been here once many years ago and I remember it was really good so decided to try it again. Still really good! Kurt had the macaroni and cheese with chicken and I had the chicken pot pie risotto. Delicious!!!

Walked around a little more after supper but it has gotten quite chilly so stopped at Brickway Brewing for a nightcap before going back to the hotel. Kurt wanted to try a whisky flight.

Short walk back to hotel. One truffle and blogging before turning in for the night.

Tomorrow just heading for home, lots to get done before work Monday morning! Another great vacation, although too short as always!
