Back to Charleston we go - good things I really like this city!!!
Super early morning - up by 3:30 this morning! Had to get to Sioux Falls for the great Uber ever - Aunt Jen - to pick us up at Mom and Dad's at 5:30. Walked right through security and left pretty much right on time. I asked the gate agent if there was any way we could move our seats up as we were pretty much in the back of the plane and we only had an hour in Chicago so wanted to get off the plane quickly. She said her computer was still warming up but she would check once she could and it would update on our passes. Sure enough - she moved us to row 7, the first row behind first class. Kurt said it is worth the extra money and we need to book these seats in the future! Lots of leg room!
Arrive in Chicago and noticed it seemed we went past the airport. Sure enough the pilot came on, "You may have noticed we didn't land...". Ends up there was something wrong on the plane so we were circling the airport while they troubleshot the problem... Oh yeah! So we circled for just a bit and he came back and advised that we were going to land but had to do a 'max brake' do to issue and would be met by fire trucks. Just what anyone wants to hear! They said this was out of an abundance of caution but still! As you can guess since I am writing this - we landed safely. There was definitely some hard braking but other than that great landing. We had to wait on the runway for a couple minutes while the plane was inspected before we could taxi to the runway. What a great way to start the day! This was the only firetruck on our side but I guess there were a bunch more on the other side.

Even with all the drama and our circling we still made it to our connecting flight with a brisk walk and just a quick bathroom stop. Made it Charleston right about one time around 2:00.
Picked up car - a Hyundia Tucson (nice!) - and headed out for some lunch. Kurt hadn't really eaten all day and I just had a blueberry muffin in Sioux Falls so we were both quite hungry!
Went to Rebel Taqueria for lupper. I had a Quesa Birria taco and a Beefy Cheesy Soft & Crunchy taco. Both were AMAZING!!! Kurt had a brisket sandwich and fries - I stole a couple fries and they were great! The neighborhood was a bit questionable but was more than comfortable there during the day! Highly recommend!
After lunch we headed for our rental. It is a little above garage apartment behind the main house. Not quite what the pictures made it out to be but it is cute and will work fine for us. Rested a bit.
Talked to Chase and he was headed out to supper with his Dad and everyone. We had just eaten and looking forward to an early night so decided to just plan to see him tomorrow. But decided we need to move a bit otherwise we were going to both fall asleep, and it was too early for that! We are staying in the Park CIrcle area again. I like it as we are familiar with the area now and it's about halfway between Chase's base and historic Charleston. Park Circle is a neat area with lots of bars and restaurants.
Walked up the road to Commonhouse Aleworks. We tried to sit outside but the breeze was a chilly and we couldn't get the table heater to work (figured out after that it would probably help to turn the propane on...). Moved inside but they were getting quite crowded for trivia night. We would have stayed and watched but the groups were struggling for seating so decided to move on.
Next we went to Madras Rua Irish Pub next. Such a cute little place. Lots of little private boths for diners but we just sat at the bar. At this point I wanted just a little bite to eat and trying to keep Kurt awake for a while as it's WAY too early to go to sleep so went to Benny Rinaldi's for a slice of pizza. I knew they sold by the slice as Chase and I went here after his graduation in July. What I forgot was that one slice covers two plate. Kurt and I could have shared one slice! It was good pizza though!
Back to the room to blog and watch a little TV - trying to make it to 8:00 before heading to bed. Can't wait to see Chase tomorrow and enjoy a day in beautiful Charleston!
