Drayton Hall
Breakfast this morning was pastries from Evo Bakery. I had a bacon and cheese croissant and hot chocolate, Kurt a cherry turnover and cheese Danish. It was all great, nothing too exciting...
After breakfast we headed from Drayton Hall. It is a plantation house that has been preserved, not restored. It was really cool. There are no furnishings in the house. There are constantly doing maintenance to preserve the house but that is all. If there is a missing emblem, they don't replace it, they keep the house as it is. They were actually working on the house when we were there. There is also an ongoing archeological dig where there were buildings in the past.
We took a tour of the house and then an audio tour of the grounds. I loved the house but unfortunately our tour guide was not so great. Oh well, the house was still amazing!
The small building to the left is the privy. Quite interesting - it was a seven seater privy... I guess they didn't care as much about privacy as we do these days.

After the house tour we wandered the grounds and half listened to the audio tour. I love their trees and the Spanish moss.
Found an alligator!
Leaving Drayton we took the long way back to the house on a pretty winding road. We ended up in Summerville at Swig & Swine for some lunch. I had the pulled pork, green beans with sausage, and mac and cheese. It was good, definitely hit the spot as we were getting quite hungry. Kurt had the brisket, sausage, beans, and mac and cheese. He agreed - not the greatest we've ever had but good.
We started to make to head for the house and Kurt asked if I thought we should have ice cream. Of course, I always think we should have ice cream so he found and ice cream shop for us to go to. We ended up at Ye Old Ice Cream and Sandwich Cafe. I had the Midnight pothole - not sure what was all in it but everything in was chocolate so it was great. After ice cream we headed back to the house and regretting ice cream after a big bbq meal...
It was a bit of a drive and through some interesting neighborhoods. When Kurt and I travel we almost always set the GPS to avoid highways. So much more interesting, although sometimes we end up places we don't necessarily want to be after dark. Good thing we are rarely out after dark...Once at the house we relaxed for just a bit and headed back to Park Circle. Picked up pastry for breakfast and then walked around for a couple drinks. Stopped in at Wyrd Sisters brewing, Frothy Beard Brewing Company, and The Dig. Probably could have skipped the dig... Wyrd Sisters was a cute little place. It was converted from a little house so a couple different rooms you could sit in. Wasn't my favorite beer but it was good. Frothy Beard was more a bar, they had just one of their own beers on tip. They had a bunch of bands that night and a $20 cover so we just sat for one before the bands started. Stopped in at the Dig more because I had to go to the bathroom. Very busy bar/restaurant.
Walked back to house. Watching a movie (Thunder Bolts) and blogged. Early night for us as early morning tomorrow. Graduation day!!!!
